Bronze statues of Scotland’s greatest heroes, Robert the Bruce and William Wallace, were placed at the gatehouse (entrance) to Edinburgh Castle in 1929. Both men were pivotal in the war fought to regain freedom and independence for Scotland and her people from the British crown.
Robert the Bruce and the Scottish army defeated the English forces at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314 to fully set Scotland free - at least for a time. Robert the Bruce reigned as King Robert I of Scotland from 1306 until his Death in 1329.
